Apple Music users in the US can now listen to their tracks on Amazon Fire TVs and Fire TV sticks. Apple Music had become available on Echo devices a few months back. Apple's streaming service is also expected to come to Echo users in the UK in the next few weeks.
Amazon Fire TV users already offer a wide range of music options on their devices, including Amazon Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and more. The news is an exciting addition for Apple Music fans who already enjoy streaming their playlists on their Echo devices.
Apple Music is behind Spotify and Pandora in terms of paid and unpaid subscribers, but this partnership with Amazon could help it expand its reach. Apple Music was launched in 2015 and currently has 56 million subscribers worldwide. While music streaming service Spotify has over 87 million paid subscribers and 109 million unpaid users.
Spotify has recently complained to the European Commission's antitrust regulators about Apple's 30% tax on purchases made through the App Store, that it believes gives Apple an unfair advantage over other services. The 0% tax essentially forces Spotify to choose between charging extra for its Premium users or lose its profit to Apple.
Users who already own an Amazon Fire TV can activate the Apple Music app directly on their device. If the Apple Music skill is already activated on your Alexa app, you can start playing your tunes on Fire TV immediately.
