Xiaomi's Poco F1 with Snapdragon 845 launched in India, starts at Rs. 20,999

Xiaomi has officially unveiled the much-awaited Poco F1 smartphone at an event held in India. It is the first smartphone launch under the recently launched Poco sub-brand which is aimed at delivering faster performance and useful features while being affordable at the same time.

The Poco F1 sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a big notch at the top. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with Adreno 630 GPU and 6GB/8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. It comes with LiquidCool Technology to ensure that the smartphone does not get as heated up as many of the traditional smartphones. It is claimed to dissipate heat 300% faster than the competition and keep the device cooler. There is 64GB/128GB/256GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage with support for microSD cards (up to 256GB) if you want more space. It features hard coated polycarbonated unidesign.

In the camera department, there is a 12-megapixel (Sony IMX363 sensor) and 5-megapixel (Samsung sensor) dual camera setup with DualPixel Autofocus and LED flash. It also supports portrait mode shots which have now become a mainstream feature in smartphones. There is the AI ability to detect different subjects for better shots. It has a 20-megapixel selfie camera with beautification features and the Infrared face unlock support. Poco claims that it works even in low-light and dark conditions like in the night.

It comes with 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support to keep the device running throughout the day. Poco is even bundling the phone with a 9V/2A charger. There is also Direct HD sound, a fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port.

In terms of software, the Poco F1 runs a new OS called MIUI for Poco which is a slightly improved version of the traditional MIUI. It has a new launcher called Poco Launcher which offers an app drawer with features like automatic app categorization, hidden apps, and support for third-party app icons. It will also become available for other devices in beta stage starting August 29th via the Play Store.

There are improvements related to the performance as well which includes faster app launch, foreground app prioritization, and faster touch response. In terms of updates, MIUI for Poco runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with a promise of Android Pie upgrade by Q4 2018. The team is also hoping to offer Android security patches at least once in a quarter. Additionally, users will be free to unlock bootloader without worrying about their warranties getting void.

Poco also unveiled the Poco F1 Armoured Edition which is basically a more durable variant of the smartphone. It features the back panel made up of Kevlar material which is said to be five times more expensive than glass. It is claimed to be both scratch and wear resistant.

It has been announced in three color variants Steel Blue, Rosso Red, and Graphite Black. As for pricing, the Poco F1 variant with 6GB/64GB costs Rs. 20,999, 6GB/128GB at Rs. 23,999, and 8GB/256GB at Rs. 28,999. The Poco F1 Armoured Edition with 8GB/256GB storage has been priced at Rs. 29,999. There will be an instant Rs. 1000 off on HDFC credit/debit card during the first sale of the device. It will go on sale starting August 29th at 12 PM via Flipkart and Mi.com online store.

Poco wrapped up the event by announcing a bunch of official accessories for the phone. It includes an Ultra-slim case priced at Rs. 399, Armoured case at Rs. 799, and official Poco skins at Rs. 299.

Well, well, well, never expected the F1 to be priced starting at 20,999. That's taken me aback. That's indeed very aggressively priced.
