Sony unveils new rugged Tough SD card series at IFA 2018

30 August 2018 2

The IFA 2018 is going in full swing and the companies from across the world are unveiling new products. Along with other OEMs, Sony also announced a new product at the event. We have to admit the technology is never inexpensive, however, its mass production certainly reduces the price. At the IFA 2018, Sony announced the world most rugged 'Tough' SD card series. The company stated the new SD series are specially designed to bear water, drops, dust and also physical torture as well.

Thanks to its one-piece ribless design it won't break in pieces easily. It also features data protection lock slider. The SD card can survive to drop up to 5 meters without any damage. It is an IP68 certified product which means it can resist water and dust. The company also stated the SD card can also pass the X-ray machine without damaging the data.

The good thing is the tough cards are not only rugged but also amongst the fastest in the market. The company claims the card write and read speed is up to 299/300Mbs per second which is worth appreciating. You can check the health status of your card anytime thanks to companion software provided by Sony.

As far as availability is a concern the company confirms the Tough SD cards will be available in October. The entry-level variant has 32GB storage and it will cost $72. Feel free to share your thoughts regarding rugged Tough SD cards from Sony in the comments section below.
