Lenovo unveils new Chromebooks including one with 4K display

31 August 2018 3

At IFA 2018, Lenovo took the stage to announce three new Chromebook models Yoga Chromebook C630, Chromebook C330, and Chromebook S330. The first one is a premium Chromebook offering with high-end specs and is aimed at those who are willing to spend a premium. As for the other two offerings, they are quite similar in what they offer and are affordably priced.

Starting with the Yoga Chromebook C630, it is the world's first Chromebook to come with a 4K display. It sports a 15.6-inch 4K "near-edgeless" display with support for touchscreen input. It can also be used at 1080p resolution if the user wants to do so which can be helpful in saving battery life. Under the hood, it has the Intel Core i5-8250U processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. The buyer can choose from 64GB or 128GB of eMMC onboard storage.

Since it is a convertible offering, it features a 360-degree hinge which will allow to use it in the tablet mode. This is where the touchscreen input support will also prove to be most useful. Lenovo is claiming a battery life of up to 10 hours which should be good enough for most. It further has two USB Type-C ports, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, one HDMI port, one SD card, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has been priced at $599.99 which makes it one of the most expensive Chromebooks out there. It will be available for purchase starting October.

As for the Chromebook C330 and S330, they are more or less the same offerings except for a couple of differences. Both of these are running MediaTek 8173C processor clocked at 2.1GHz with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of eMMC storage. The connectivity options are same as the premium Chromebook C630 except that these have only one USB Type-C port. The biggest difference between the two is that the C330 offers an 11.6-inch touchscreen display with 360-degree hinge and the S330 offers a 14-inch non-touchscreen display with the standard hinge. It means the former can be used like a convertible to work in the tablet mode.

Lenovo has priced the Chromebook C330 and S330 at $279.99 and $249.99 respectively with sales kicking off in November.
