What to expect from OnePlus 6T on October 29?

23 October 2018 5

The Chinese flagships killer manufacturer OnePlus is getting ready to announce the next-gen phone. Like all OnePlus phones, the device is in rumors and leaks from the past few weeks. The company already confirmed the device will be announced as OnePlus 6T. The T-variants from OnePlus is always special as it brings the best in the market in the second half of the year. Thanks to a continuous streak of rumors and leaks the OnePlus 6T easily becomes one of the most anticipated flagships of this year.

The good thing is OnePlus always bring significant improvements for the T-models every year. Apart from bringing better design, specs, camera the T models are usually slightly expensive than the predecessor. By bringing the T-model in the second half of the year the OnePlus can easily compete against the other top-tier phones in the market.

The month of October is full of new flagships, So far LG, Razer, Google, and Huawei took the stage to announce new premium phones this month, Xiaomi is also getting ready to launch new flagship phone on October 25th, So it would be interesting to know what OnePlus is cooking inside as far as OnePlus 6 is a concern. Without any further delay, let's find out what to expect from OnePlus at the announcement of OnePlus 6.

Launch date

A few weeks ago back on October 8th, OnePlus rolled out invite for the announcement of OnePlus 6T on October 30th. Soon after confirming the live streaming event, the company starts releasing posters and tickets for the event. Recently on October 18th, Apple confirmed their launch event of new Macs and iPads on Oct 30th. As expected soon after the Apple's announcement OnePlus rescheduled their OnePlus 6T launch to avoid a clash.

It is pretty much understandable as no company in the market would like to share the spotlight with Cupertino giant. That is why OnePlus is now holding the launch event on October 29th at 11 AM EST. If you were unable to buy a ticket, you can watch it via live streaming as well.

Design

The three big Chinese giants Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus are owned by BBK that's why many times few key features move from one sister company to the other. Usually, the OnePlus phones took few design cues from Oppo's R-lineup phones. Recently Oppo released new premium phones R17 and R17 Pro and so far all leaks give us a pretty good hint regarding what to expect from OnePlus 6T in terms of design.

If all leaks are considered as true the Oppo R17 will have an ultra-thin water drop notch at the top of the display. The cutout only features selfie snappers. Overall other design isn't much different from the predecessor. Initially we heard rumors the OnePlus 6T could be slightly thicker than the OnePlus 6 due to larger battery cell but later on, the company released an image on Twitter to confirm the OnePlus 6T isn't much different from the OnePlus 6 in terms of length and weight.

An alleged retail box and renders all indicates the OnePlus 6 will have a full front-facing display with an ultra-thin notch. On the rear side, you will get dual cameras setup aligned vertically in the center with LED flashlight. The device doesn't have an in-sight fingerprint scanner and the reason is OnePlus 6T will have an under-glass fingerprint scanner. This feature is already confirmed officially by OnePlus.

The alleged CAD renders suggest the OnePlus 6T dimensions are 157.5 x 75.7 x 8.2mm and due to slightly protruding rear cameras, the max thickness is 8.6mm. Another officially confirmed aspect of OnePlus 6T is lack of traditional 3.5mm headphone jack instead it will have USB-C port for connectivity and headphones. Once again the OnePlus 6T won't have any IP-ratings against water and dust.

Display

Due to the reduced bezel, the OnePlus 6T definitely will have a larger display than the predecessor. So far leaks and rumors suggest the OnePlus 6T will have a 6.4-inches AMOLED display. If this info is accurate it will be the largest display on the OnePlus phone yet. Once again OnePlus will stick to a Full HD+ resolution. The OnePlus 6T screen resolution will be 1080 x 2340 pixels.

Hardware

Every T-model brings few improvements over the predecessor, however, there are few aspects where the successor isn't different from the predecessor. The OnePlus 6 was announced with the best hardware at that time, the Qualcomm's Octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset was powering it. The Snapdragon 845 successor is due in Q1 2019, at the moment the Snapdragon 845 SoC is still the best in the market.

The OnePlus 6T will have the same chipset like the OnePlus 6. Almost all premium phones of this year have the Snapdragon 845 SoC, so it won't change with the OnePlus 6T. The base model will have 6GB RAM with 64GB whereas the top of the line model will have 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Overall in terms of performance, the OnePlus 6T will be on par with the latest premium phones but it will lag behind Mate 20 Pro series and Apple's latest iPhones.

Software

OnePlus CEO Peter Lau recently confirmed OnePlus 6T will be the company's first phone with Android Pie straight out of the box with Oxygen OS skin over it. He further added the next version of Oxygen OS will be bringing tons of new features and gestures support.

Camera

The camera is certainly one of the most hyped aspects of OnePlus 6T. Initially we heard the OnePlus 6T will have triple cameras on the rear side, however, later on, we heard OnePlus 6T will retain dual rear sensors like the predecessor. The chances are high the company will bring somewhat similar cameras like the R17 Pro. The primary sensor could be a 12MP module with variable aperture. In stable lightening conditions, the aperture will be turned to f/2.4 whereas in low-light conditions the aperture turns to f/1.5. The secondary sensor will be 20MP with f/2.6 aperture.

A recent teaser from Oppo gives a glimpse regarding the rear design of OnePlus 6T but the camera sensors part was covered with hand to ensure it doesn't leak away whether the device has dual or triple sensors on the rear. Recently the OnePlus CEO released a night shot sample photo to showcase the OnePlus 6T prowess capturing low-light shots. However, one thing is confirmed the OnePlus 6T will have a better camera than the predecessor.

Price

One of the highly regarded aspects of OnePlus phones is indeed their great value for money, the same will be the case for the OnePlus 6. However with each new iteration OnePlus increasing prices steadily. Every new OnePlus phone has something new and exciting that's why the company makes it slightly more expensive every year.

This year OnePlus 6T base model is expected to cost $550 whereas the 8GB RAM model will be around $600 mark. However, it is important to mention that other premium phones in the market are still way expensive than OnePlu 6T. For instance, the latest Mate 20 Pro, Galaxy Note 9, V40 ThinQ and iPhone XS are touching $999.

In the end, we would like to hear our readers thoughts regarding the OnePlus 6T in the comments section below. If you think we skipped any aspect, feel free to share with us and other fellow readers. Stay tuned, we will keep you updated.
