Huawei has officially unveiled its newest Android flagship named Nova 4. This new phone was being teased by the company for some time and has now been introduced to the world. The biggest highlight of the smartphone is the in-display camera hole which we first saw on the Samsung Galaxy A8s.
The in-display camera hole is the new way from OEMs to deliver highest-possible viewing area on the display but without having to go for the notch. Notches become a trend among almost every device maker since Apple opted for it with the iPhone X last year. Since then, we have seen more and more phones coming out with a notch but in the past few months, OEMs have started to look for different ways to make bezel-less phones while avoiding notches. One of them is the in-display camera hole where a hole is drilled into the display at the same place where the selfie camera is to be placed. Samsung showcased a bunch of such displays at its annual developer conference.
Huawei has opted for a similar approach with the newly announced Nova 4. It has the in-display camera on the top left corner which seems to be smaller than what Samsung has offered with the Galaxy A8s. It is also the same one which we will see in the upcoming Honor View 20 (aka Honor V20), set to be unveiled on December 26th.
As for the Huawei Nova 4, it sports a 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2310 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with the in-display selfie camera hole. Under the hood, it has the octa-core Kirin 970 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The whole package is powered by a 3750mAh battery with fast charging support. On the software front, it will be running the latest EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android 9 Pie out of the box.
It has two variants named High and Standard variant with the major difference in the triple rear camera setup. The high version of Nova 4 features a 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture. There is support for phase detection autofocus, EIS, and 4K video recording.
On another hand, the standard edition has a 20-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture accompanied by the same 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. There is a 25-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture on both the variants. The front camera also has EIS support and 1080p video recording.
The Huawei Nova 4 has been announced in Honey Red, Bright Black, Blue, and Gold color variants. We will be updating pricing and availability details as and when these will be released.
