Vivo announces iQOO sub-brand for China

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has announced a new sub-brand called ‘iQOO’, just a week after the Lunar New Year. The official website of the company is iqoo.com, and according to reports, the company will launch its premium phones under the new brand.

Vivo’s new sub-brand came to light after a new account appeared on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. The account had an initial post that read; ‘Hello, this is IQOO’ and provided no other information. A second comment was posted by Vivo which states, ‘Welcome new friends in the new year (sic)”.

The Chinese tech media has gone on overdrive after the new brand page was revealed and the original Weibo post has been liked thousands of times. A number of people are started actively commenting on the thread and Vivo is also officially replying to several comments in the same thread.

According to the thread, Vivo will send an actual iQOO smartphone to one lucky follower tomorrow. The iQOO phones could be premium gaming devices, similar to what ZTE’s Nubia Red Magic devices, or it could be a spin-off like Xiaomi's Realme range which has seen great demand in India.
