Xiaomi has made a very important announcement at the MWC 2019 event and it’s about a 5G smartphone which will be released in May this year. The name of the device is Mi mix 3 5G and it’s a variant to recently release Mi Mix 3. Xiaomi first demoed the phone with 5G connectivity and Snapdragon X50 modem at an annual Partner Conference in Beijing back in December last year but it took the opportunity at the world’s biggest stage to showcase it globally.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G comes in a ceramic body and will be available in two colors – Black and Sapphire Blue. It uses the same camera setup that the standard Mi Mix 3 has; meaning it has dual cameras on both the sides – dual 12MP camera module on the back, where the primary lens has /1.8 aperture and Dual Pixel autofocus and the secondary is a telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture. On the front, it has a 24MP and 2MP dual selfie camera setup, where the secondary camera supports the depth of field effect. The dual selfie camera opens up via a slider mechanism and it has dedicated Google Assistant button as well for quick access to the voice assistant for doing tasks.
The Mi Mix 3 5G is powered by 7nm based Snapdragon 855 processor. It features a 6.39-inch AMOLED full-screen display.
"Essentially everything you loved about the Mi Mix 3 is now coming along with 5G," Donovan Sung, director of product management for the Xiaomi global team.
The 5G connectivity is expected to boost the speed and coverage. The device will cost around $679 when it launches in May. Xiaomi’s initial 5G wireless partners include Europe-based Orange, Sunrise, Telefonic, Three, TIM, and Vodafone.
