OnePlus releases '5G Apps of Tomorrow' programme for developers

28 February 2019 2

OnePlus is one of the early adopters of 5G network technology among smartphone makers. It showcased a 5G prototype of the phone at MWC 2019 in Barcelona with plans of an official release sometime in summer of 2019. But this is not it as OnePlus has teamed up with Qualcomm to announce a programme called 5G Apps of Tomorrow for developers.

As the name suggests, the programme is aimed at encouraging developers to create 5G apps for the future. All the smartphone makers and network carriers around the world have been touting 5G as the next big thing for quite some years now. This is the reason OnePlus wants to have apps that are ready to showcase the true potential of 5G connectivity.

It has further announced a bunch of prizes for those who will be selected:

  • A trip to visit OnePlus HQ and have some face to face time with Pete
  • Access to 5G testing labs
  • Support from OnePlus and EE
  • A 5G OnePlus Device
  • EE 5G connection in the UK
  • A year of financial support

There will be a total of five winners which will be selected on the basis of OnePlus community votes. As for those who will make it to the top 20, OnePlus will be offering a smartphone to each of them. The last date for submitting applications is March 26th where participants need to submit a video explaining their app idea.
