The much-rumored Oppo Reno series of smartphones is now official in China. It includes two smartphones named Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition. The two phones have a few similar features but the latter one happens to be a true flagship. It boasts features like triple rear cameras, 10x optical zoom, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition sports a tall 6.6-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 6. There is no notch on the phone which helps it achieve an impressive 93.1% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, it has Snapdragon 855 processor with an option to choose from 6GB/128GB, 6GB/256GB, and 8GB/256GB configuration variants.
In the camera department, it features a triple camera setup including a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 13-megapixel periscopic telephoto sensor with f/3.0 aperture, and an 8-megapixel Super wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture. It is the same periscopic setup which was demonstrated at MWC 2019 and is capable of offering up to 10x optical zoom. It also explains the naming of the smartphone. The rear camera setup further offers dual optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, phase detection autofocus, and dual-LED flash.
The phone has a 16-megapixel wedge pop-up front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 79.3-degree wide-angle support. Even though it is essentially a pop-up camera, it does not work like traditional pop-up cameras. It gets popped out only slightly and that too at an angle making it look like a wedge. It can be best explained via images instead of words. Oppo says that this strange looking pop-up camera can work for five years when used about 100 times a day. There is also fall detection support which will make the camera go inside the chassis if the phone is dropped.
It features a 4,065mAh battery to keep the lights on with support for VOOC 3.0 fast charging. It will be running ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie out of the box. Other features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, face unlocking, Bluetooth 5.0, and Game Boost 2.0 mode. There will also be a 5G variant for the Reno 10x Zoom edition but more details will be shared at the global launch event on April 24th in Zurich.
