Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has an interesting product under its portfolio and it’s a 55-inch smart TV but it’s not like any other smart TV out there. Two weeks back, we got to know that Honor has some different and better plans for smart TVs and now the company has made its plans official at Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC).
Honor likes to call it Smart Screen and it confirmed to reveal more about the new offering on August 10 at HDC 2019 event. The Smart Screen with a massive 55-inch panel aims to become your multi-functional device in the living room. Honor offered only the abstracted info on the device and it appears, the doesn’t fall into the traditional TV category nor does it justify its existence inside the Smart TV category. It’s something beyond and advanced which targets to perform multiple tasks.
Honor didn’t elaborate on the idea of having a Smart Screen but you can think of the tasks your Smart Home Displays or products perform, like Google Home, Amazon Echo, and more. But this Smart Screen will have something very interesting as well and this is the pop-up camera. Yes, you read it right! A pop-up camera on a TV! Well, the details on the same are obscure but think of facial recognition login as one of the examples among others. You could also make video calls and stuff like that with output coming on a wide 55-inch display panel.
According to its presentation, the new product is powered by Honghu 818 chipset which has been developed by Huawei’s Hisilicon in partnership with Baidu. This is, of course, different from the Kirin lineup for smartphones. The new chipset seems to have been optimized specifically for smart screen products. The Honghu 818 chipset’s computing power and decoding capability that ensures Honor’s new smart screen offers excellent picture and sound quality. It supports super-resolution (SR), HDR, noise-reduction (NR), dynamic contrast improvement (DCI), automatic color management (ACM) and motion estimation motion compensation (MEMC) technologies for high-end video experience. It also supports 8K@30fps and 4K@120fps video decoding and up to 64MP image decoding. According to a report from Reuters, it will be the first products based on its proprietary Hongmeng Operating System,
Interestingly, the reservations are already started on platforms such as JD.com and the listing shows Honor Smart Screen has two versions – a standard variant and a Pro variant. The screen size is the same, however.
More about the Honor Smart Screen will be revealed in the coming days. So stay tuned.
