Huawei at the event held in Munich, Germany where it introduced the new Mate series also announced a new fitness smartwatch called the Watch GT 2. The iteration to the Watch GT now has an improved design and health tracking features.

The new Huawei Watch GT 2 has 3D Glass Uni-Piece Crystal-Bezel design and HD OLED display and an always-on mode. It comes in two sizes – 46mm model features a 1.39-inch OLED with 454x454 resolution and 22mm strap, the second one is smaller, thinner, and lighter as well which measures 42mm and has a 1.2mm OLED with 390x390 resolution and 20mm strap.

Both the models of the Watch GT 2 are powered by Huawei’s homegrown Kirin A1 chipset and run Huawei’s LiteOs not Google’s WearOS. Huawei claims the Kirin A1 is capable of delivering 2x better power efficiency and 2x better Bluetooth connection range than Apple Watch Series 4. The Kirin A1 is touted to be the World’s first BT & BLE 5.1 wearable chip.

Both of them have Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity and are 5ATM rated, meaning they’re water-resistant at a depth of 50 meters for up to 10 minutes a time.

The interesting thing is, the Huawei Watch GT 2 has an embedded speaker and microphone that can listen to you up to 150m distance. Another feature that Huawei highlighted particularly is the long battery life. The Huawei Watch 2 is rated to deliver up to 2 weeks of battery life.

The typical usage gives you 14 days of usage. If you’re using GPS mode, you’d get up to 30 hours of battery, with music playback, it gets reduced to 1 day and with Bluetooth call you to get 10 hours of battery.

Under the improved health & fitness improvements, Huawei has added two new workout modes to the list of modes Watch GT already supports, so now there are a total of 15 workout modes, including running (13 running courses), walking, cycling, hiking, swimming, as well as gym machines and free-weight training. Also, there’s now underwater heart rate monitoring as well.

Apart from the health-related functions, the Watch GT 2 also includes day-to-day companions like Find My Phone, Flashlight, notifications, barometer, compass, and more.

The price of the 46mm Huawei Watch GT is €249 and the smaller which is 42mm costs €229. The shipping will begin in October.
