Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC may launch in December at company's Tech Summit

08 November 2019 0

Qualcomm is all set to bring its next major flagship Snapdragon processor for smartphones. While there is no official announcement on when the launch of the Snapdragon 865 SoC will happen, Qualcomm’s scheduled event Tech Summit 2019 hints at the possibility. The event is scheduled to happen from December 3 to December 5 in Maui, Hawaii.

Qualcomm usually reveals its latest chipset at this event every year, thus it is fair to believe we will see Snapdragon 865 getting launched as well. The details on the processor are pretty scarce but going by what is anticipated, we may have a few key details on the same.

It is speculated that Snapdragon 865 is built on Samsung’s 7nm process, instead of TSMC’s. We also expect to see two variations of the processor – one for LTE markets and an expensive variant with a Snapdragon X55 5G modem for the markets where 5G is going to take a pace next year.

The 7nm EUV process is expected to improve power consumption and offer a better area as well. Some early benchmarks show the processor has some great single-thread and multi-thread performance. But the real power is yet to be examined and that could only be done when the SoC will go official

The last Snapdragon Tech Summit held in 2018 introduced new mobile platforms, always-connected PCs, and stuff related to 5G. So together with the Snapdragon 865 processor, we expect to see some other key announcements in the field of 5G in December as well.

While Samsung is expected to have built Snapdragon 865, the upcoming Snapdragon 875 is said to be built by TSMC using a 5nm process. But still, it is too early to talk about something which will happen in 2021. For now, let’s just wait to see what Qualcomm has in store for us this Tech Summit.
