Lenovo brings ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8, Yoga Gen 5 laptops ahead of CES

Ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (2020), Lenovo unveiled some new products from its ThinkPad and Yoga series. These are the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Yoga models, and an All-in-One ThinkCentre M90a as well.

The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon and Yoga 5 laptops have been unveiled with the latest Intel processor, Dolby Vision display, Dolby Atmos display, PrivacyGuard, and more. These laptops have new security features, including the PrivacyGuard feature that warns users if anyone is looking at their screen and turns on the PrivacyGuard.

The new 8th-gen ThinkPad X1 Carbon, as well as the 5th-gen ThinkPad X1 Yoga, inherit a lot of features from their direct predecessors. The chassis, weight, and thickness are the same.


They both are based on the same Intel’s 10th-generation Core processor platform (Comet Lake) with up to six cores paired with 16GB LPDDR4 RAM and up to 2TB SSD. ThinkPad Yoga 5 is rated to deliver 10-15 hours of battery and the X1 Carbon can deliver 10-18 hours of battery life.

This is the new ThinkPad X1 series that has received a new keyboard that includes a set of buttons, for instance, Voice-over-IP access. Also, the Wi-Fi 6 support comes with the ThinkPad X1 series. The third improvement is common to both ThinkPad X1 and Yoga 5 and that is the new Full-HD display with 500 nits maximum brightness. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is once again part of Intel’s Project Athena program, meaning it meets Intel's performance and battery life standards there.

Flagship models of both mobile PCs will come equipped with an Ultra HD display and Dolby Vision support.

The price of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 starts at $1499 and the ThinkPad Yoga Gen 5 starts at $1599. Both will be available for purchase this year.

ThinkCentre M90a AiO desktop

Talking about the ThinkCentre M90a AiO desktop, it features a 23.8-inch Full HD display with optional PrivacyGuard. It is powered by up to 10th-Gen Intel Core ui7 vPro processor and AMD Radeon 625 2GB gDDR4 GPU coupled with up to 32GB DDR4 RAM. It comes with up to 2TB HDD/1TB SSD/ Up to 16GB M.2 Intel Optane memory. It comes with WiFi 6 support with Dolby Atmos speaker system.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M90a AIO desktop is priced starting at US$ 1099. It is expected to be available from June 2020.
