Realme to also launch Snapdragon 720G phone and become one of the first brands to use it

21 January 2020 0

Qualcomm has just unveiled its new 4G-only chipset called the Snapdragon 720G, specifically tailored for mid-range phones in India. One of the key highlights of this chipset is the NavIC support, which is the Indian version of the GPS for the better positioning system.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) revealed earlier this month that it was in advanced talks with Xiaomi over the use of NavIC chipsets. So, it was clear that Xiaomi would be the first in many to unleash the first-ever phone with NavIC support. However, it is yet to be known if this particular smartphone in question is going to be powered by the Snapdragon 720G or the other two – Snapdragon 662 or Snapdragon 460 that got launched alongside it. Well, while there is no clearance on the same, the fact that Snapdragon 720G devices will be made available first than the other two clears the doubts pretty much.

The other obvious name that comes up is Realme, the other Chinese smartphone manufacturer which has been doing great in the country. In fact, Realme CEO, Madhav Sheth has revealed on Twitter that “Realme will be among the first smartphone brands to launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G in the upcoming smartphones.”

Xiaomi and Realme have always been vying for the first position in the race of first launches. So, the new decision fo Realme doesn't come as a surprise.

Sheth didn’t disclose any other details but there is full-fledged information on the Snapdragon 720G available, so one can expect what key features the device could come with. Also, the company would reveal more about the same son.

Going by the announcement of Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 720G powered devices will get launched in Q1 2020, so expect the first smartphone to land in the same timeframe and we would see other cheaper options by the end of this year as other processors come into the picture.
