YouTube has officially confirmed that it is expanding dark mode to its official smartphone app meant for Android and iOS devices. This rollout of this new mode is currently underway for iOS but for those who use Android, they will have to wait for some time before seeing it on their device.
The dark mode was introduced by YouTube for desktop users last year. It basically changes the background of the service from White to a darker version (grayish) which is easier on eyes. It is also said to be helpful in allowing users to focus on the content instead of controls. The company said even though the mode was introduced as an experiment, it turned out to be one of the most requested features from users.
This is the reason YouTube is now bringing the dark mode to smartphones. On iOS, it is really easy to switch to dark mode as only requires a few taps. A user simply needs to tap on his account features and tap on Settings to enable the Dark Theme option. It will enable the mode instantly with no need of restarting the app or doing any other extra step.
As said in the beginning that the mode is currently in the rollout phase for iOS users, there is a good chance that you might not see the new option straight away. In such a situation, simply wait until you see the change in your app. On another for Android users, we will keep you updated once becomes available for the platform.

It's a bit strange to see the update hitting iOS first and Android later.
For an app like YouTube, it's important to have the night/dark mode. We tend
watch videos on YT even in the night, which can be harmful to the eyes.
Exactly, as an Android user, I'd at least expect Google to bring out the updates to Android first.
