Looks like the wait is finally over. After numerous leaks and rumors Google’s budget Pixel smartphones launch may just be around the corner. A teaser posted on its store reads “On May 7, meet a new hero”. While there is no official confirmation from Google regarding the “product” which will debut on May 7, however, by sharing a teaser on its hardware store it has hinted that these could indeed be the new Pixel devices we’ve been hearing about.
The cheaper line of Pixel has been the talk of the town for some time. It was speculated that Google is inspired by OnePlus’ success in this price range and wants a share of the pie for itself. The teaser page posted by Google also says, “On May 7, something big is coming to the Pixel universe,” and links to Marvels upcoming movie Avengers Endgame. Though there is no clarity on why Google is linking to the movie which is set to hit theatres on April 26th. May be just trying to link with the short name for the Avengers i.e. A to the Pixel ‘A’ line of devices.
To recall, Google is speculated to announce two new budget friendly Pixel smartphones, Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Both these devices are said to be a stripped-down version of the flagship Pixel devices and are said to hit stores on May 7th.
In a related news, tech Blog Phandroid claims that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL were listed online in Canada way before the launch revealing the price. As per the leak, the Pixel 3a may sell for CAD 649.99 while the Pixel 3a XL may retail for CAD 799.99 This roughly translates to USD 489 for Pixel 3a and USD 601 for Pixel 3a XL. Though, if this leak is true the price of the budget Pixel phones do not look as ‘budget-friendly’ as people expected them to be.
As usual we would suggest you take the pricing with a grain of salt as these are carrier prices and are slightly costlier than Google’s price. Also, because Canadian Dollar is slightly weak compared to the United states Dollar, the phones could be priced cheaper in the US.
