HMD Global might revive Nokia N9 with KaiOS

15 January 2019 3

HMD Global has had a successful run so far when it comes to reviving the Nokia brand by releasing a number of Android smartphones. During the course of the time, it even released Nokia 8110 4G which is basically a resurrected Nokia 8110 but with modern-age features. And now, it seems like the team is all set to revive another old-school iconic Nokia phone known as the Nokia N9.

At recently held CES 2019, Google had an exhibition of Google Assistant-powered devices which it referred to as "Friends of Google Assistant". One section of the exhibition displayed feature phones running KaiOS and thus offering Google Assistant. These included the Nokia 8110 4G and Jio Phone but between them, there was a phone which has caught attention of alert tech enthusiasts. As you might have guessed, this particular phone is the one which looks exactly the same as the Nokia N9.

The alleged Nokia N9 showcased at the exhibition was shown off in the signature Cyan color of the original device. It even has Nokia branding which is one of the main reasons to believe that it could actually be the revived Nokia N9 with a new operating system. It means it will be offering Google Assistant and most likely 4G LTE connectivity as well.

The original Nokia N9 was unveiled in 2011 with the all-new MeeGo OS. This new operating system was aimed at offering a full-display user experience with no physical buttons. This is undoubtedly an expected thing in today's time but it was quite an innovative thing at that time. While it is not confirmed whether there will actually be a new Nokia N9, we will keep you updated on all the developments.

Must agree that Nokia did make us nostalgic with the release of phones like Nokia 1110. Reviving older phones is a welcome option these days.
