Nokia 8.1 is the first Nokia phone to receive Android 10 update

10 October 2019 0

Living up to its reputation, HMD Global has announced Nokia 8.1 Android 10 update is now rolling out. It is the first Nokia smartphone to receive the latest Android version since its public release last month. Overall, it is still one of the handfuls of devices to get Android 10 update. These other phones are Essential Phone, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, and compatible Google Pixel phones.

It is worth noting that all the aforementioned phones are flagships but when we talk about the Nokia 8.1, it is a mid-range smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. This makes it even more impressive considering the usual Android update situation. Nevertheless, HMD Global has started over the air (OTA) rollout for Android 10 update on Nokia 8.1 units.

The OTA file size is said to be around 1.5GB which means it is a big one. This is the reason we would suggest you connect to a WIFi network for starting the downloading process. While the update brings a wide variety of new features and changes, here are the major ones highlighted by Nokia itself:

  • System-wide dark mode
  • Smart Reply to help you get reply suggestions for text messages, emails, and instant messages
  • Gesture Navigation
  • Focus mode to help you concentrate only on those apps that matter the most
  • Better privacy controls
  • Android security patch (September 2019)

Since it is an OTA update, you should see an update notification automatically. But you can also check for the update manually by visiting Nokia 8.1 system settings. Either way, you should receive the update sooner than later.

The Nokia 8.1 isn't still available. To be notified when it becomse available click here.
