Gmail on the web is getting a new quick settings menu so that you could change the layout of your inbox while you are reading your emails. The quick settings menu lets you find the layouts and themes easily so that you can customize the look of your inbox right away.
This update for Gmail on the web just adds the ability to easily access customizable settings that already exist in the full Gmail settings menu. Must note that the update adds no new settings to the existing settings menu available on Gmail.
Now after the update, when you click on Settings, you’ll see different interfaces, inbox types, and display options alongside your inbox. The option you select using the quick settings menu will get reflected in your inbox. Note that nothing has changed and you can still access the full settings menu by clicking the “See all settings” button provided at the top of the new quick settings menu.
Gmail is just offering a quick way to access all the settings from the right side of your inbox so that you don’t have to go Settings page every time you want to change any layout or theme for your inbox.
The quick settings menu offers you to quickly select from Display Density options, like Default, Comfortable, or Compact. You can quickly choose a theme as per your liking and select a layout for your inbox from Inbox type like Default, Important first, Unread first, Starred first, and so on. It is worth mentioning once again that the full page of settings can still be accessed by clicking on "See all settings" provided above the quick settings menu.
The new update was rolled out on May 26, 2020. It is a gradual rollout and should reach everyone soon. The new quick settings menu is available to all G Suite customers as well as users with personal accounts.
