MediaTek has announced Kompanio 1380 processor for premium Chromebook devices. It is the same chipset that we first heard about during the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 launch at CES 2022. It is claimed to deliver high and smooth performance while being battery efficient at the same time.
The Kompanio 1380 is an octa-core processor built on the 6nm manufacturing process. It has four Cortex-A78 cores clocked up to 3GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked up to 2GHz. There is support for LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC/UFS/NVMe storage standards. It has ARM Mali-G75 MC5 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks.
The processor is capable of supporting Chromebooks with Full HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels), 2.5K (2560 x 1600 pixels), and 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolutions. It can work with up to two 4K displays at 60fps, one 4K display at 60fps, or two 4K displays at 30fps. The camera department features 16-megapixel + 16-megapixel sensors support with up to 4K video resolution.
There is WiFi (2.4 and 5GHz) and WiFi 6 connectivity along with Bluetooth. It has MediaTek APU 3.0 for handling all AI-related performances and tasks. It will be seen first in the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 that will be available for purchase in April 2022. It should make its way through other new products in the coming months.
