Apple unveils Mac Studio along with Studio Display 5K monitor

For Mac lovers, Apple has launched a new stand-alone compact desktop solution called Mac Studio. It is specifically aimed at creative professionals who want the ultimate best thing for their work. It also took wraps off the new Studio Display, a 5K monitor, to go with the new desktop offering. These two products were announced at the same event as the iPhone SE 5G and iPad Air 5 release.

Mac Studio

The Mac Studio is a compact desktop that looks similar to the Mac Mini. It measures only 7.7 x 3.7 inches but packs a lot of power inside. The buyers will have a choice between M1 Max and M1 Ultra processors which are 10-core and 20-core CPU offerings respectively. If we talk about graphics, these are packed with 24-core and 48-core GPU respectively.

The M1 Max model comes with 32GB of RAM (configurable up to 64GB) and 512GB SSD storage but can be opted with 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB storage capacity. As for the M1 Ultra model, it has 64GB RAM that can be configured up to 128GB. The onboard storage is 1TB SSD but expandable options include 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB.

The connectivity options include four Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A ports, one HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 10Gb Ethernet port. The M1 Max model has two additional USB Type-C ports and the M1 Ultra model has two extra Thunderbolt 4 ports on the front side. It supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity. The device will boot the latest macOS Monterey out of the box.

The Mac Studio with M1 Max chip starts at $1,999 and with M1 Ultra chip at $3,999. If you want to configure it with higher options, it will only cost you more.

Studio Display

The Studio Display is Apple's new external monitor that comes with a 27-inch 5K Retina display. The panel has 5120 x 2880 pixels resolution with True Tone, P3 wide color gamut, and 600 nits of brightness. It has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.4 aperture and Center Stage at the top that can be used for better video calling experiences.

It features a built-in stand that allows the display to be tilted up to 30-degrees. It also has a VESA mount adapter option and the display can be used in both landscape and portrait orientation. It has a three-microphone array for a superior quality audio recording and a Hi-Fi six-speaker system for an immersive audio listening experience. It even supports Spatial Audio for music and videos played with Dolby Atmos.

The monitor has three USB Type-C ports and a Thunderbolt 3 port as connectivity options. The Studio Display is priced at $1,599 for the standard glass version. It will cost you $1,899 if you want the Nano-texture glass version.

Apple has set the pricing of the tilt-adjustable stand at $1,599 and if you want the Tilt- and height-adjustable stand, it will set you back by $1,999. The VESA mount adapter is priced at $1,599.
