At WWDC 2022, Apple took wraps off a new MacBook Air and a new 13-inch MacBook Pro. Both of these notebooks are powered by the company's new M2 processor. It is a direct successor to the M1 chip and brings noticeable performance and battery efficiency improvements.

The MacBook Air (2022) has been redesigned completely and claimed to be "remarkably thin from every angle". It is only 11.3mm thin and weighs just 2.7 pounds making it really lightweight. It sports a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display along with the notch that debuted with MacBook Pro last year. This means the new model has minimal bezels for an immersive experience. The panel has 500 nits of brightness with 25% more brightness this time around.

Under the hood, it is powered by the second-gen M2 chip from Apple itself. It is an octa-core processor with a 10-core GPU and 20 billion transistors. It is claimed to deliver 18% faster CPU performance and 35% better GPU performance compared to the predecessor. It will be able to play back more streams of 4K and 8K videos than before.

There is a 1080p webcam featuring a three-mic array and a four-speaker sound system. The new model features MagSafe support along with two Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are multiple configuration variants with up to 24GB of unified memory and up to 2TB SSD storage. The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 for the base model featuring 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD storage, octa-core CPU, and octa-core GPU.

Apple has also refreshed the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the new M2 processor. It will be available with up to 24GB of unified memory and up to 2TB of SSD storage. There are no other changes to the model and is similar to what we saw last year. It now starts at $1,299 for the base model.
