If we ask you to name a foldable laptop, you are likely to answer it with the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED but do you know Lenovo was the first brand to release the product? It launched the ThinkPad X1 Fold in 2020 and now two years later, it has announced its successor called ThinkPad X1 Fold (2022). It comes with various improvements and appears to be a better and well-polished product than the first generational release.
The first major change that you will notice is that the ThinkPad X1 Fold (2022) has a bigger 16.3-inch flexible OLED display. It is a panel with 2024 x 2560 pixels resolution, 600 nits brightness, Dolby Vision, touchscreen input, and Pen support. It is touted to be the world's lightest 16-inch commercial laptop device by the company. It offers a 22% larger display within a 25% thinner chassis and thinner bezels. The display size will be 12-inches when in a folded state.
Under the hood, it is available with 12th gen Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors powered by Intel vPro. There are up to 32GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB SSD storage options. The laptop will boot Windows 11 out of the box which can either be Home or Pro edition. It comes with an optional full-size backlit keyboard that can be attached to the device for a true laptop user experience. The keyboard has TrackPoint and a large haptic touchpad.
The laptop has a 5-megapixel RGB+IR webcam for video calls. There is a 48Whr battery but one can also get a version with a 64Whr battery if desired. It comes with a 65W charging adapter for faster charging times. The connectivity options include dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB Type-C Gen 3.2 port, a Nano-SIM card tray, WiFi 6E, LTE (5G optional), and Bluetooth 5.2.
The users will get three Dolby Atmos speakers but only two of them work at the same time. There will be four microphones with Dolby Voice support. The physical keyboard comes with a fingerprint scanner and the laptop has Windows Hello facial recognition for security. Lenovo has priced the ThinkPad X1 Fold (2022) at $2,499 with sales expected to begin in Q4, 2022.
