Xiaomi is rumored to be gearing up for a major launch event to be held in Shenzhen. This happens to be Xiaomi’s 8th anniversary and to mark this special occasion the company may launch the Xiaomi Mi 8 Anniversary Edition phone. While we don't really know when this speculated device will launch, a couple of tipsters from China have claimed in the past that Xiaomi has an event to be held at the end of this month. And, now we have a new leak that reinforces those claims.
A screenshot has surfaced that reveals the company has already sold tickets for an upcoming Shenzhen event and it is scheduled to take place on May 31. The tickets for the upcoming event are priced between 799 Yuan (~$125) and 1,999 Yuan (~$314).
While not much is known about this device, it is said to be coming with an iPhone X like 3D face recognition and an under display fingerprint scanner.
A leaked photo of a black colored Xiaomi device box that mentions “8” adds fuel to this speculation. Another source also mentioned that the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi may have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
Interestingly, a new leak that has surfaced shows a front panel in a plastic cover and has Mi 8 mentioned on it. This image shows that the new phone will have narrow bezels, a thick chin at the bottom and most importantly a wide notch at the top. This notch is unlike the ones found on other Android smartphones since this will house the 3D face recognition. The Xiaomi Mi 8 is said to sport an OLED display which almost confirms the presence of an under display fingerprint sensor. LCD panels are not compatible with a fingerprint sensor located beneath the display.
Speculations are ripe that Xiaomi may skip the Mi 7 and instead directly launch the Mi 8. There are so many instances that clearly reflect that Mi 8, supposedly company's 8th-Anniversary edition will launch too.
The company has partially introduced the Mi 8 to the Mi Community and this comes out as a concrete base for all those reports we had earlier. Furthermore, the name of the product has recently been spotted among other Xiaomi devices on Chinese Mi Store app.
Since this is a very important event for the company, it is speculated that the company will introduce more than a few products including a Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, which was teased earlier.
What are your thoughts about the 3D face recognition? Or do you prefer the regular fingerprint and face unlock combo available in the current generations phones? Do let us know in the comments section below.
