There used to be a time when OEMs contained themselves by releasing only one flagship per year but in recent years, that has changed to two flagships for many of them. Sony seems to be the newest entrant to the club as it has been rumored to be working on a second flagship for some time. A new report claims that the Xperia 2 flagship could get unveiled at IFA 2019 in Berlin.
The report is based on the two Use Agent Profiles (UAProf) files mentioning two new Sony phones. These phones are listed with model numbers J8210 and J8010. If you might remember, the Xperia 1 flagship has model number J8110 which means J8210 should be its successor likely to be called the Xperia 2.
These files reveal that the J8010 has a display with 3840 x 1644 pixels resolution, similar to the Xperia 1. Interestingly, the J8210 has been listed with only 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is undoubtedly a strange choice of resolution for a modern flagship but again, many of UAProf details can also be placeholders. It means we can expect the two devices to get official with completely different display resolutions.
The two model numbers are said to be linked with Sony smartphone codenames SPHINX and HORUS for 5G-enabled devices. It means we are likely to see these devices with 5G support. It also means Sony could even opt for a different or a completely new name instead of the currently reported Xperia 2. Nevertheless, we will keep you posted on all the developments.
