We are getting closer to the Indian festive season where all companies hope to sell as many products in as much quantity as possible. The Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is no different but this time around, it seems to have big plans to cash in on the upcoming season as it is reported to be working on releasing at least eight smartphones in coming months.
A fresh Economic Times report claims that Vivo will release six new smartphones for offline as well as online market. It will also release a new online-exclusive U-series of smartphones. The report is based on a conversation ET folks had with Nipun Marya, Vivo India's Director of Brand Strategy.
The idea behind releasing six new smartphones is to widen the portfolio of existing smartphone lineups so that it has something new for all types of buyers this festive season. As for the upcoming new U-series, Vivo wants to aim at the Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 20,000 price segment of the online market. Marya says that this price segment accounts for about 80% share of the complete online market.
Vivo's V series is currently the market leader in the Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 price segment. It recently debuted an offline exclusive S series to cover the Rs. 15,000 and Rs.20,000 segment. In other words, Vivo is hoping to lead or at least have some significant market share in all possible price segments of offline as well as online market.
A separate report from India Today claims that Vivo also has a new Z series smartphone lined up for launch. This new phone will be joining the Vivo Z1 Pro that was announced last month. It does not seem to be a Z1 Pro successor but is said to bring better specs and features including an in-display fingerprint scanner. The new phone is reported to get official next month for a price expected to be under Rs. 20,000.
