Huawei takes pride in the camera performance of its flagship smartphones and we all know the reason for that. It has released some of the best camera smartphones in recent times with many of them even setting industry benchmarks. If the latest leak happens to be true, it is all set to raise the bar once again as the Huawei P40 Pro is now rumored to be the world's first smartphone with 10x optical lossless zoom support.
The claim has been made by well-known industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who further went on to describe the technology behind achieving the goal. He says that Huawei will make use of two mirrors and a prism within the camera module. Since Huawei P30 Pro utilized a single prism to offer 5x optical zoom, the improved technology will help the company achieve twice the zoom. He concluded by adding that once Huawei launches the P40 Pro, other smartphone brands will follow the suit as well.
In another leak coming from Chinese publication ITHome, the Huawei P40 Pro is reported to come with a Penta-lens camera setup on the back panel. It has shared an alleged promo image of the smartphone showing the device's rear side. The setup has four cameras aligned vertically along with a fifth camera on the top right side. It has the same Leica branding that we have seen in the last few Huawei flagships.
The report further mentions that the presence of a periscopic camera unit that will help P40 Pro achieve a 10x optical lossless zoom. This is the same claim what we talked about in the beginning through the claims made by Kuo. There is no doubt that 10x optical zoom will improve the mobile photography experience, especially when clicking shots of subjects present at a large distance. But just like Huawei Mate 30 series, the P40 series is also confirmed to arrive without Google apps and services that are likely to have an effect on its global sales.
