It is about to be a year since Vivo introduced a smartphone sub-brand named iQOO in China. It has released around five smartphones under the brand name and all of them have been limited to the Chinese market. A new 91Mobiles report claims that Vivo is now ready for global expansion as it is working on bringing iQOO brand to India.
The report cites "industry sources" to mention that the iQOO brand will make its Indian debut sometime in March 2020. There are about a couple of months for the same. It adds that the brand will operate completely independently in the market from the start instead of beginning as a sub-brand. We saw Oppo release Realme as a sub-brand but later turned into a stand-alone entity.
Eve Xiaomi announced POCO as an independent brand last week which also debuted as a sub-brand. It seems like Vivo's decision to bring iQOO to India at this time is related to competing with the rivals. It makes sense as just like POCO, iQOO is a brand focused at releasing premium smartphones at relatively cheaper pricing. This is the reason it has managed to carve out a niche for itself in China.
As far as iQOO's product lineup is concerned, some of the phones are iQOO, iQOO Neo, iQOO Pro, iQOO Neo 855, and iQOO Neo 855 Racing Edition. It is hard to say which of these will be unveiled in India but we can expect the phone(s) to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8xx series processor.
