Samsung Galaxy S8 Lite leak shows renders and specs, launch on May 21st

10 May 2018 3

In the past couple of months, there have been reports about Samsung's plans to launch a toned down variant of the Galaxy S8 flagship from last year. It is speculated to be called Galaxy S8 Lite and now, a new leak has appeared on Weibo detailing crucial specifications and high-quality renders.

Starting with renders, the alleged Galaxy S8 Lite features a design exactly similar to the Galaxy S8 flagship. You can see the same single rear shooter and awkward fingerprint scanner placement which Samsung fixed with Galaxy S9 this year. The renders show the upcoming smartphone Burgundy and Black color options. While none of the renders show the front panel, it should be similar to the Galaxy S8 flagship.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S8 Lite is said to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. There is 5.8-inch Full HD+ (2220 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to offer 64GB onboard storage with 3000mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo. In the camera department, it is expected to feature a 16-megapixel rear shooter and an 8-megapixel front camera.

Both Galaxy S8 Lite and Galaxy S8 are quite similar in design and specs except for the huge difference in processor and display resolution. Such differences were expected considering the use of "Lite" moniker for the device. While there is no confirmed information, it is expected to get official on May 21st at an event in China.
