Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and even the Galaxy Tab S4 tablet are expected to offer a DeX like experience and that too without the DeX accessory. The DeX dock that was first introduced alongside the Galaxy S8 lets the users experience a PC-like experience from their supported phones. But now many rumors are popping up saying that the two much-anticipated upcoming devices from Samsung will still offer the experience but without the need of any accessory, which in this case is the DeX dock.
This alludes that Samsung has finally found a way that will enable this functionality right from the device itself without the need of any other component or accessory. Italian site AndroidGalaxys was the first to report on this, also WinFuture and TechnoBuffalo were able to independently confirm the info, however, TechnoBuffalo later pulled the info down.
The sites have confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9 and the Tab S4 tablet will be able to offer DeX’s desktop UI simply via the phone’s USB Type-C connection and a DisplayPort-enabled adapter, which would be a first for Samsung. However, Tab S4 will be required its keyboard which may end up being called the Book Cover Keyboard.
The sites mention some other features as well, including a ‘Dual mode’ which will supposedly allow you to use the Galaxy Note 9/ Tab S4 as a connected screen in DeX mode.
Another common feature or ability Galaxy Note 9 and Tab S4 are going to have is S Pen which may bring some productive features. Also, 'Linux on DeX' might allow you to run one or more Linux distros in DeX mode. The Linux on DeX lets you transform the tablet into a real Linux PC.
Now, in a series of S Pen leak, we have one more tidbit about the same that says S Pen might also be used as a mouse or a pen for writing/drawing.
The Unpacked event happening on August 9 isn’t too far. So, curb your curiosity till then and keep welcoming some new tidbits.
