Early Galaxy Note 9 benchmark results show iPhone X is faster

10 August 2018 4

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 9 yesterday, it touted it as the most powerful Galaxy Note device yet. This statement is indeed true but what about competition from other brands, especially one of its closest rivals Apple iPhone. It is a question which will be asked many times and if early benchmark results are anything to go by, Samsung has work to do for the next upgrade.

These early benchmark results have been shared by folks over at Tom's Guide after they tested a unit of the phablet after the event. When the results were compared with other modern flagships, Apple's iPhone X from the last year proved to be faster and better even today. Starting with Geekbench 4, iPhone X scored 10,357 as compared to Samsung's 8,876. Even OnePlus 6 scored 9,088 which is way cheaper than Samsung's best yet.

In 3DMark Slingshot test which looks for graphics-intensive performance, the competition was quite close as both Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone X was separated by only 200 points. It was won by Samsung but one should not forget that iPhone X is running on last year's processor. It means we can expect better performance once Apple's next-gen A12 chipsets become available. This test was topped by the OnePlus 6 with 8GB of RAM.

But since it's a Samsung phablet, it went on to win display brightness and display color gamut tests. This is not surprising considering that the South Korean giant is known for making one of the best smartphone displays out there. As for other tests, we will have wait until 2018 iPhone models to actually see the difference.
