Samsung's first 8K QLED TV will go on sale next month

30 August 2018 4

Samsung has unveiled a new 8K QLED TV at IFA 2018 which is just not a concept. It bears the model number Q900R and will become available for purchase starting next month. This will make it the first Samsung 8K QLED TV to go on sale as all previous ones were simply concept offerings.

The Samsung Q900R has been announced in four models with 65-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch, and 85-inch display sizes. These models are said to offer Real 8K resolution with a peak brightness of 4000 nits. There is also support for AI-powered 8K upscaling for the content which is not available in 8K resolution natively. It will work with all sorts of sources including a media player, smartphones, tablets, HDMI, and USB.

Since Samsung is one of the avid supporters of HDR10+ technology, the new Samsung 8K QLED TV also features support for the same. It will help in optimizing the brightness level and to deliver accurate possible color reproduction like how the content creator intended. Other than this, you will get all the standard Samsung goodies like One Remote, Ambient Mode, SmartThings, and Universal Guide.

Jongsuk Chu, SVP of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics said,

"At Samsung, we’ve worked tirelessly over the years to move the industry forward when it comes to premium picture quality, and the introduction of our QLED 8K with 8K AI Upscaling is an integral component as we look to the future of displays. We’re thrilled to introduce the Q900R to consumers and are confident that they will experience nothing short of brilliance in color, clarity, and sound on our new 8K-capable models.”

Even Samsung hasn't mentioned any price block for their offering. It's not giving any idea of how much these TVs will cost in the days to come.

Without doubt, LG and Samsung are giving each other a tough fight in the 8K display category. There's both QLED and OLED options to choose from in the market.
