Samsung's Android Pie One UI camera app removes instant video recording button

27 November 2018 3

Samsung started beta testing Android Pie-based One UI about a couple weeks ago. It means beta testers have started to explore the new UI and look for any major changes or improvements. It was recently reported One UI allows users to lock home screen which is a beneficial addition but not all changes are exactly as useful as one might think.

As spotted by SamMobile, Samsung has made a noticeable change to the camera app interface available with One UI. The change is related to the placement of the video recording option which is not as convenient as it used to be. With the new interface, the team has opted for the design similar to the iPhone camera app. It means a user will need to swipe to access the video recording mode which is basically an extra step to do.

On the older version, Samsung has placed the video recording button next to the shutter button. This allowed users to switch to video recording mode instantly by tapping the button. But now, the button has been replaced by an option to switch between front-facing and rear cameras.

There is no doubt that it is a minor tweak in the camera app design but it is certainly something which will take some time to get used to. And even after, there are likely to be users who would wish for the previous design with a simple tap option.
