After a bunch of leaks and official teasers, Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A8s smartphone in China. It is the first smartphone to sport Infinity-O display panel which was showcased last month. It eventually it is the world's first smartphone with in-display selfie camera which is something Huawei is working on as well.
The Samsung Galaxy A8s sports a 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) Infinity-O display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The in-display camera hole is on the top left corner with a diameter of 6.7mm. The hole has been punched to offer more viewing area on the display without having to go for the notch. Although, Honor has claimed even smaller 4.5mm in-display camera hole for its upcoming View 20 smartphone.
Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor coupled with 6GB and 8GB of RAM. It will be offering 128GB of internal storage with support for up to 512GB microSD cards. In the camera department, it has a triple rear camera setup featuring a 24-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. There is a 24-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture for clicking selfies and video calls.
The whole package is powered by a 3400mAh battery with adaptive fast charging. It will be running Android 8.1 Oreo layered with Samsung's custom UI out of the box. It also has the USB Type-C port which has started to become common in more and more modern smartphones. And yes, it ditches the 3.5mm headphone jack which makes it the first Samsung smartphone to do so.
Samsung is yet to announce the Galaxy A8s pricing but has unveiled color variants: Blue, Green, and Gray. It will be available for preorders in China starting December 21st.
