Samsung's Exynos 7904 mid-range SoC is aimed at Indian users

21 January 2019 2

Samsung has launched Exynos 7904 as its newest mid-range processor for upcoming smartphones. It is a processor said to be aimed at bringing "high-end multimedia features" to mid-range smartphones. One interesting thing said during the announcement is that the new chipset has been customized by keeping the needs of Indian consumers in mind.

The Exynos 7904 is an octa-core processor built on the 14nm manufacturing process. It features two Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and six Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz which should make it more powerful and efficient than other recent Exynos mid-range processors. It has Mali-G71 MP2 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks like running video games.

The main objective behind releasing this particular chipset is to deliver better multimedia user experiences at an affordable price. It is capable of supporting up to a 32-megapixel single rear shooter and an advanced a triple camera setup as well. In the latter scenario, " the third camera in a smartphone can take panoramic pictures with wide angles or add bokeh effects for aesthetic blur in portraits or scenery shots with more ease." It is further said to feature 4K video recording support at 30fps and 1080p video recording at 120fps.

Rajiv Seth, Senior Director and Head of Sales and Marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung India said,

“Samsung is committed to bringing world-class innovative technologies for the consumers. With smartphones driving the digital revolution, the Indian market has great potential. The Exynos 7 Series 7904 will enable advanced mobile experiences in a broader range of devices with triple-camera support, powerful performance and connectivity."

Samsung is all set to announce Galaxy M series smartphones on January 28th. This is the series where we are likely to see Exynos 7904 processor making its commercial debut. With both a new lineup and a new processor, Samsung is completely in the war mode to take on the mid-range market leaders like Xiaomi and Realme.

Multimedia isn't only limited to audio or video, if you are thinking on those lines. As explained above, include intensive gaming too in that. After all, it too needs support for the videos, isn't it?
