Galaxy S10 ultrasonic fingerprint scanner goes under durability test [video]

05 March 2019 3

Samsung's recently launched Galaxy S10 is truly a modern-age flagship. It features usually expected upgrades but also packs cutting-edge features like the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. While all that is good on paper and even in practical usage, it is equally good to know how much durable the device is. This is where Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything YouTube channel comes into the picture as he shares his extensive durability test videos.

Nelson has posted a new video checking Galaxy S10 durability with a special focus on the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The video starts with the usual display scratch test and burn test. The display panel performed as expected under both phases with nothing surprising to note. It should be noted while the panel was able to withstand flame for about 30 seconds, it is not advised to do at home as it will certainly destroy the oleophobic coating.

The Galaxy S10 held its ground firmly even in the bend test with nothing disappointing happening. It is something that should give you relief if you are planning to buy one. Next up, Nelson proceeded to towards the most anticipated part of the video which is to test the fingerprint scanner. As he discovered, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on Galaxy S10 works fine even after getting heavy scratches. This is undoubtedly an impressive feat considering that a user is quite unlikely to inflict such heavy scratches on the device in day-to-day normal usage.

The fingerprint scanner stopped working only when the display developed heavy cuts and cracks. In other words, the display panel should be broken for the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner to become useless.
