Samsung possibly working on a bendable smartphone body frame - patent suggest

12 March 2019 4

As much the tech industry loved the idea of foldable smartphone displays, how cool would that be to be able to bend the entire smartphone’s body frame. Well, it seems that the folks at Samsung are having that as a consideration which is suggested by the latest patent published by the Korean tech giant Samsung.

The patent showcases a device that could be folded vertically unlike the Galaxy Fold that is folded horizontally through a dedicated hinge for the purpose. Though this new idea of being able to fold phone’s body frame is quite impressive and could open up a world of opportunities to push the limits of smartphone design.

Considering how smartphones are getting bigger and taller day by day in a hope to gain large display real-estate, a potential problem that a consumer's faces are the accessibility. It becomes quite difficult to reach out to the top of the displayed single handily on a device that is 6-inch diagonally. So this foldable body frame could mean that consumers could fold their smartphones to better pack them into their pockets could be a great deal.

Apart from this, the device is to have an in-display fingerprint scanner, a dual-camera setup on the rear side of the phone while on the front side we have two selfie snappers. Currently, this device is only presented as a patent and there is no word out there as to when this could become a reality. What do you think of such a form factor?
