AT&T is now the latest and, in fact, maybe the last retailer to convey that all the pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy Fold have been canceled. Well, this doesn’t come as a surprise as Samsung itself confirmed that its first foldable solution isn’t doing well. But still, a confirmation from one of the largest carriers in the US was necessary.
In an email received by Tom’s Guide regarding the publication’s preorder device, AT&T said that “Samsung delayed the release of the phone, which means we can’t ship your phone.” The tech publication also reports that other customers who pre-ordered the device have received the same email. The pre-ordered Galaxy Fold devices on AT&T were meant to be ship on today, June 13th.
It won’t be wrong in saying that AT&T was in touch with the progress of the Galaxy Fold devices and might be waiting to check on the status. The carrier might have canceled the pre-orders long before when Samsung and other carriers did. But it has only announced now, on the same day when the shipping was meant to happen. This indicates that Samsung is constantly investigating how to fix the issue that damaged the display of several review units. Had it found any fix, AT&T would have given a new shipping date to its customers who pre-ordered it. We are still waiting for Samsung to set a new release date for its foldable smartphone and now this news from AT&T disappoints us further.
Best Buy canceled its Galaxy Fold last month. AT&T said that any money paid in advance would be refunded and affected customers would receive a $100 AT&T Promotion Card within the next 60 days. Customers can re-order the Galaxy Fold through AT&T once Samsung announces a new release date, but it’s unclear exactly when this will be. A report from a South Korean publication, however, stated that the release of the Galaxy Fold will happen in July. Not that this is just another speculation and Samsung already delayed the release of the Fold two months ago.
