After a good pause and test of our patience, Galaxy Fold appears to be finally coming and to start with, Samsung has opened the pre-registration of the device in China via its website. The first foldable device from Samsung was confirmed to arrive in September, but there wasn’t an exact release date announced. However, this time as well we don’t know exactly when the Galaxy Fold will be sold but it’s good to note that pre-registrations have started and the pre-orders could happen anytime soon.
Samsung has made several changes to the design of the Galaxy Fold to make it perfect and prevent it from getting damaged as before. Samsung claimed that it has done several rigorous tests to validate the new design, but the verdict from the users could validate the upgrades.
During the examination, Samsung extended the top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display beyond the bezel to make it apparent that it’s an integral part of the display structure and shouldn’t be removed. Some metal layers have also been included underneath the Infinity Flex Display for an added protection.
Additional reinforcements have been made to better protect the device from external particles while maintaining the identity of the device. Samsung also strengthened the top and bottom hinge area to make the device even stronger. The space between the hinge and the body of the Galaxy Fold has been reduced as well. It was discovered during iFixit’s teardown that the crease contained noticeable gaps at the top and bottom, making it susceptible to debris coming under the screen.
Samsung Galaxy Fold received much criticism due to its susceptibility to damage. The device received the damage after the early adopters accidentally removed a protective plastic layer on the top of the screen. In response to these issues, Samsung decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold. Later on, the launch received a few more delays as Samsung was busy in addressing the problems. Earlier in July, Samsung admitted that it pushed Galaxy Fold before it was even ready.
Samsung Galaxy Fold has a 7.3-inch tablet-sized flexible display. There’s a smaller “cover” display on the front as well which can be accessed when the device is folded into the phone mode. The tablet screen includes a large notch in the top-right corner.
Note that just the pre-registration has been started, which means you can register yourself to know when the device will be available for pre-order.
