After a long wait, Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy Fold will go on sale in South Korea starting September 6th. It is the company's homeland which is getting first dibs on the consumer availability of the foldable phone. It will also be coming to other markets like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, and Germany but no specific timeline has been shared yet.
This is Samsung's next attempt at bringing the Galaxy Fold to the consumer market after its first attempt failed miserably. The luxury foldable phone was scheduled to go on sale in April this year but just before that, many reviewers started to share their bad experiences with the device. These experiences were mostly related to the display getting damaged which happened within only a few days of regular usage.
The Korean tech giant initially called it the mistake of those reviewers but eventually acknowledged the mistake on its part. This is when all the Galaxy Fold units were called back and the team started working on resolving all the issues. It was in July when Samsung announced that it has not only fixed the existing issues but has also taken some additional steps to improve the device's durability. It also added September as the month for the release and staying true to its promise, it has at least delivered on the release aspect.
Apart from the fixes and improvements, the only major difference between the new and original Galaxy Fold is that the newer one also comes with 5G connectivity. Samsung has made its first foldable phone 5G-ready but it is said to be limited to select countries including South Korea. It means unless your country is listed, you will be getting the standard model with 4G LTE support.
Lastly, Samsung has announced a special customer service experience for all Galaxy Fold users. It includes special treatment to the buyers like one-on-one access to Samsung experts and a 24/7 support hub online or over the phone. The exact details of this special service will vary from market to market and will be revealed at the time of the local launch.
