Samsung showcases new foldable design with a square form factor

30 October 2019 0

Foldable displays can come in many form factors, considering how flexible they are. We have already seen two forms, courtesy of Samsung and Huawei and now we are seeing one more from the house of the former.

Samsung has tried one more foldable form and shown off at its Samsung Developer Conference 2019 (SDC19). The company teased the new clamshell folding screen concept at the event. The phone folds vertically to form a small and square form factor when closed.

The new model is said to be codenamed ‘Bloom’ with the model number SM-F700F. It has a 6.7-inch foldable display and a 1-inch cover display. No other details are known but it is expected the new foldable phone could use the latest Exynos 990 SoC with 5G.

As you would see, the video starts by showing off the Galaxy Fold which slowly takes the shape of the new concept. The new foldable device has a punch-hole camera as well.

Sally Hyesoon Jeong, head of Framework R&D Group at Samsung’s mobile communications said,

“This brand new form factor we are now exploring not only easily fits in your pocket but it also changes the way you use the phone.”

The South Korean giant just teased the new folding concept and did not provide details on its commercial availability. The reports on Samsung trying new foldable form factors started coming as soon as the Galaxy Fold went for sale.

In a statement to Reuters, Samsung said,

While we can’t comment on future products, Samsung is committed to pioneering the foldable category, including investing in the development of new form factors.

The statement supports all those speculations and reports that came early to state Samsung is already trying new form factors in the foldable phone space.
