Despite unwanted launch delays and negative headlines about Samsung Galaxy Fold's durability, one can not deny that the foldable phone is nothing short of a technology marvel. Many of us even appreciate Samsung for taking the bold step and actually releasing the product which could prove to be a stepping stone for the future. And now, Samsung has released an official blog post revealing exactly how it transformed the Galaxy Fold concept into a real product.
Samsung says that the team working on the project started off by studying the folding mechanism in our day-to-day lives. It analyzed objects that we already fold and unfold on a regular basis, like books and wallets, to know how exactly they work. They also compared different folding processes to find out which one offered the best user experience.
The next step was to work with the engineering team to come up with a product design that was not only convenient to fold and unfold but was also aesthetically pleasing. The team went through over 1,000 prototypes before settling on the final design that we see with the Galaxy Fold in the market.
The final in-fold design was selected mainly because of two reasons. The first one is that it keeps the display protected when in the folded state and the second one is that it is convenient for one-handed usage. Another reason is that the design ensures that users are able to use Galaxy Fold camera(s) regardless of how they are holding the phone.
The chosen design further helps with uniform weight distribution so that it feels natural and comfortable to hold. The fingerprint position was finalized as it is the natural position for the thumb to fall on. Lastly, Samsung says that the complete Galaxy Fold packaging is made up of eco-friendly materials which is a first for the company.
