Samsung has already confirmed that it is working on a new form factor for its next-generation of foldable devices. This new form factor is inspired by clamshell phones and is similar to how Motorola RAZR (2019) works. Now, a new Korea Herald report has claimed that Samsung's next foldable phone will cost less than $1000.
It mentions that the Samsung clamshell foldable phone will cost about 1 million Won (about $845). This will make it a lot more affordable than the Galaxy Fold that retails for about $2,000. The report does not offer details on exactly how Samsung will be able to bring down the pricing by more than 50% but it mentions that the idea behind the decision is to ramp up sales.
Samsung has currently sold over 500,000 Galaxy Fold units but it has set a goal of reaching 6 million units in 2020. It does not take rocket science to figure out that the goal is impossible to achieve with the current pricing. This is the reason it is looking to make foldable phones as affordable as possible which will help it attract more and more buyers.
The report further mentions that the Samsung clamshell foldable phone will be unveiled in February 2020. It will be one of two foldable smartphones planned for next year. The next variant will be released around August and will be a direct Galaxy Fold successor. Its pricing has not been mentioned in the report but it should cost more.
