As we are moving towards the end of 2019 and the last quarter of the year, Counterpoint Research has released global smartphone shipment data for Q3 2019. The report reveals that Apple's iPhone XR has been the best-selling smartphone worldwide in the past quarter of the year. It grabbed a 3% market share in global smartphone shipment with a comfortable gap against all other competitors.
It is further noted that iPhone XR has been the world's best-selling smartphone every single quarter except for the quarter when it was launched i.e. Q4 2018. Interestingly, it managed to enter the top 10 club even in the launch quarter. This is not surprising considering that iPhone XR is the most affordable iPhone among all new-generation models which makes it an attractive option for those who can't afford or do not want to spend their hard-earned money on expensive variants like the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple had also adjusted iPhone XR pricing earlier this year which must have contributed further to its ever-growing sales numbers.
The best-selling Android smartphone for the Q3 2019 has been the Samsung Galaxy A10. It gained the second rank on the list with a 2.6% market share. It was followed by the Samsung Galaxy A50, Oppo A9, and iPhone 11 with a share of 1.9%, 1.6%, and 1.6% respectively to complete the top five.
Now coming to the remaining five spots in the top 10 list, these have been occupied by the Oppo A5s, Samsung Galaxy A20, Oppo A5, Xiaomi Redmi 7A, and Huawei P30. It is easy to notice that the list is dominated by mid-range smartphones with affordable pricing. Samsung's all three phones are from Galaxy A-series with not even one flagship making the cut as they are now touching and even crossing the $1,000 price mark,
