Samsung has now announced the release of its new external and portable Solid State Driver (SSD) T7 Touch. Samsung mainly highlights the compact design, faster transfer speeds and added security of this new SSD. Samsung also exhibited this new SSD at CES and received the CES 2020 Innovation Awards.
The Samsung T7 Touch comes in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage variants and based on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard, the SSD offers better transfer speeds than others. Samsung claims it offers a read speed of 1,050MB/s and a write speed of 1,000MB/s. It is approximately twice as fast as its predecessor, T5, and up to 9.5 times faster than external HDDs.
The T7 Touch offers enough capacity to store large number media, including 4K/8K videos, pictures, whether on tablets or smartphones.
The new device comes with an additional hardware security measure in the form of a built-in fingerprint sensor. This comes as an added layer of security over the existing password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption.
To ensure the connectivity, the drive comes with a USB Type-C-to-C cable and a USB Type-C-to-A cable. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android operating systems.
The Samsung T7 Touch features a Motion LED to let you know the status of the device with a single glance. Despite the hardware additions, the device weighs only 58 grams.
The T7 Touch SSD is available for $129.99 for the 500GB, $229.99 for the 1TB and $399.99 for the 2TB variant. Samsung has also included a three-year limited warranty with all of them. It is available starting this month in over 30 countries worldwide. Samsung also announced that following the release of the T7 Touch, the Portable SSD T7 will also get launched in the second quarter. The only difference is, it doesn’t have the fingerprint touch support.
