Samsung Gear S3 launched in India, available from January 18th

10 January 2017 0

Back in December the news first came in of Samsung planning to launch its latest Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch in India. Just two days back we shared with you the news of Samsung sending of out invites for the launch of Gear S3 in India on January 10th, and today Samsung has finally launched Gear S3 officially in India. Both the models of Gear S3 Frontier and Classic will be available in the country. The Gear S3 is priced at INR 28,500 ( approx $420) and it will be available starting from January 18th at Samsung retail centers.

With Gear S3, Samsung is taking on the competition with the like of Apple Watch, and other Android wears in the premium smartwatch segment, the Gear S3 was unveiled by Samsung at IFA event back in August last year. The Gear S3 retains the circular dial design used by the company in the last generation of devices.

The Gear S3 runs on Tizen instead of Google's Android Wear, Tizen is Samsung's own homegrown OS. Samsung has made the Gear S3 robust giving users peace of mind while wearing the watch. The watch comes with IP68 water & dust resistance, offers military-level durability (Frontier only), uses high-end watch grade 316L steel, and uses Gorilla Glass SR+ from Corning which is specially designed for wearable devices. Samsung has designed the watch such that Gear S3 is compatible with any 22mm strap giving users numerous possibilities of personalization. The watch uses a 1.3" Always On Display (AOD) and Super AMOLED display with 16 million colors.

Samsung has fitted the Gear S3 with a rotating dial which gives users the ability to do tasks like take or reject calls, without actually touching the display. If you want to send a message you can just scribble on the screen and it will be converted to text automatically. There is also the option to create reminders and to-do lists just by voice commands. Additionally, Gear S3 offers 'hyper-connectedness' with Remote Connectivity feature. With this, the Gear S3 is always connected to your smartphone even when your phone is out of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi range. To use this functionality user just need to turn on the 'Remote Connectivity' on the Gear Manager app.

There is also inbuilt GPS capability present on the Gear S3 allowing users to monitor daily fitness activities. Other sensors present on the Gear S3 are Heart Rate Monitor, Gyro, Barometer, Accelerator and the Ambient light sensor providing other useful information like weather changes, distance traveled, speed, altitude, and atmospheric pressure.

The Gear S3 smartwatch also supports Samsung Pay using NFC and MST for making payments using credit or debit cards but since Samsung Pay is not available in India the feature is of no use to Indian customers. There is an SOS button which can be used in case of emergency situations to contact family, friends and emergency services even without no phone in hand.
