April Security patch rolling on to Galaxy S5(+), Note 4 & Edge

06 May 2017 0

Samsung has rolled out several security updates to their Galaxy range of smartphones to locked and unlocked variants alike. Teaming up with T-Mobile and Vodafone, the company has released updates with the new April batch of security updates to the Galaxy S5 and the S5 Plus respectively.

Shifting to version XXS1CQDA, the update only ports the T-Mobile locked variant of the Galaxy S5 to the newest firmware. The S5 Plus, on the other hand, receives the update only from Vodafone which shifts the firmware of the device to XXS2CQD6 as carrier unlocked users still have to wait till they are notified about the same. Both the updates weigh in at over 350MB and the company promises battery optimizations and further updates for the three-year-old devices.

However, Samsung has rolled out updates to their mid-rangers in the Galaxy J1(2016), S4 Mini PU and the Galaxy Grand Prime and the update is available to all variants of the aforementioned devices. To start with, the Galaxy Grand Prime gets a new firmware in version XXS1BQC3 that ships in with March batch of security features.

The same has what happened to the Galaxy J1(2016) which gets a similar set of security patches from the month of March that shifts the firmware version to XXS2AQC1. What’s weirder is the update for the unlocked variant of the older Galaxy S4 Mini PU which gets the much older February batch of security updates, for heaven’s sake( It’s May already!).
