HMD Global has delighted its users and loyal followers once again by announcing the extension of security updates for some of its Nokia Android phones. According to HMD Global, the Nokia 8, Nokia 6, and Nokia 5 smartphones will receive quarterly security patches updates right through to the end of the 3rd year. The company says once these smartphones reach 2 years, quarterly security patch updates will start.
HMD Global announced that the Nokia 3 will be the first model to start receiving the updates from September 2019 until September 2020.
Below is the schedule for other mentioned phones –
- Nokia 5 - Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 6 (except USA and India) - Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 8 - Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
Here’s an exception as well, Nokia 6 sold on Amazon in the USA and Nokia 6 Indian version will get security patch support only till October 2019. Nokia’s forum also mentions that the security patch support for the Nokia 2 will conclude on November 2019.
HMD Global is one of those companies which bring the latest security patches to its smartphones earlier than other OEMs. In 2017, the company promised to keep its devices up-to-date for longer with two major OS updates and two years of regular security updates. Now, this further extension of security updates to some of its Nokia devices will rejoice users. This is a great move and we expect the company to add more of its devices to this program and take care of every Nokia phone holder from 2018.
