YouTube first introduced a zoom-to-fill feature for Google Pixel 2 XL that featured 18:9 aspect ratio last year. With the passage of time, we’re experiencing ever-increasing smartphones with that immersive aspect ratio and to adapt to that display dimensions, YouTube has rolled out to the feature that could be utilized on any device featuring 18:9 aspect ratio though it didn't immediately work for all the phones with those display specs. Though now users on Reddit are sharing that the latest version did bring the update for Essential Phone as well.
A lot of smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8+, S8 and more are already enjoying the zoom-to-fill feature in addition to many others. Now in the latest development, Essential Phone has also gained the support for this feature letting users swipe from in to out of the display to crop the video complying with the aspect ratio. The videos on YouTube are 16:9 aspect ratio and this feature eliminate the black bars that appear in the YouTube app while watching a video on 18:9 aspect ratio devices.
Removal of the unwanted black bars crops the video a bit though gives a much cleaner and immersive experience. If you happen to use Essential Phone, you can download the YouTube app using the APK Mirror link below and enjoy the immersive video viewing. If the feature doesn’t work even after installing, try clearing your YouTube app cache or re-install after uninstalling the last version.
